I have been pondering on this subject for a few days. What causes people to avoid taking action? Action in the form of following their dreams and attaining their goals? I thought about this, and the answer I arrived at is a very simple one- fear.

Fear paralyzes and is a huge barrier to success. Fear is why so many talented people will never realize their dreams. It is the same reason why people settle for less than what they want. The fear of what may happen.

Fear Statements:

1) What if I fail?

2) What if I lose my money?

3) What if my idea is dumb?

What If, What If, What If………..

The solution to fear is to simply take action. But as simple as that statement is, it may be difficult to interpret in everyday life scenarios. So how does a person take action.

1) Just Do It

Just like the infamous Nike slogan. Develop and idea or concept, and act on it. Are you great at sewing and designing clothing? Start your business! Will it fail? Maybe it will, and maybe it won’t. You will never know if you don’t try. One thing is for sure. Even if you fail at the business, you will learn.

2) Recognize that failure is a part of life

Failure is a part of life. You win some and you lose some, but there is an excitement and thrill from taking action that can’t be dimmed out..even by failure. As stated before, even if you fail you will learn. And if you don’t fail, then you will succeed. Embrace failure understanding that it is a component of our existence. Never let the fear of failure keep you from action. Trust me, regret is a feeling far worse than failure.

3) Do It Scared

Sometimes you just have to do it scared. We have all heard the statement, “If you’re dreams don’t scare you, you need bigger ones”. It’s true. Don’t let fear keep you from achieving the goals that you have set for your life. You don’t have to know the outcome to get moving. So take action & get started!

4) Don’t focus on making “perfect” movements

All of your actions and decisions do not have to be perfect. Sometimes, people don’t give themselves enough room to make mistakes. Part of taking action is accepting the unknown. If you only take action in the scenarios where you feel like you have a good handle on the expected results, you limit the opportunity to really experience life and to grow. In summary, don’t wait for perfect moments. There’s never a perfect moment. You just have to commit to do it.
